If your Instagram feed is anything like mine, it’s packed with all kinds of goodies and the occasional guilty pleasure. Scrolling down I can see many things related to culture, inspiring women and obviously tons of chick flicks. However, sometimes I need a bit of inspiration coming outside of my world. So I hand-picked a couple of my favourite ladies and put a little list together tailor-made for you featuring 5 Chicks to Follow on Instagram. Happy scrolling!
#1 I Reese Witherspoon — @reesewitherspoon
This actress turned producer, and empowering superhero of a woman needs no introduction y’all. Reese Witherspoon is one of my favourite ladies on planet Earth. She played Elle Woods in one of the ultimate chick flicks Legally Blonde (2001). She has won all the awards including an Oscar for portraying June Carter in Walk the Line (2005). Then she played another strong woman on the road to self-discovery in Wild (2014). Reese Witherspoon is also a badass boss lady of a producer. Her credits including Gone Girl (2014), Big Little Lies (2017-) and her documentary TV-series Shine On with Reese (2018-) where she interviews inspiring women. She is also producing two tv-shows at the moment one for Apple and another one for Hulu. Ms Witherspoon owns a production company called Hello Sunshine, a clothing line Draper James and she is actively involved in children’s and women’s advocacy organizations. And she has her own book club featuring female authors. This woman just makes no mistake and her IG is perfect too.
#2 I Geena Davis Institute — @gdigm
Geena Davis also started out as an actress, but nowadays she is more involved in feminist activism. She is known for her roles in The Fly (1986), Beetlejuice (1988) including hit chick flicks Thelma & Louise (1991) and A League of Their Own (1992). She won an Oscar for The Accidental Tourist (1998). And she was married to Jeff Goldblum (aka most amazing guy on Earth), unfortunately, it didn’t last long. Sorry for the bypass fun fact, but I am a major Jeff Goldblum fan, and I do believe that the world would be a better place with these two fantastic people as a couple. Anyways, she is the founder of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media which is a non-profit organization that researches gender representation in media and advocates for equal representation of women. This NGO makes amazing contributions to the film and tv industry by fighting for women’s voices to be heard. It deserves all the support, start by following them on Instagram.
#3 I Emma Watson — @emmawatson
I have written a whole post about the feminist icon Emma Watson happens to be. I mean she is just awesome. Emma Watson is the voice of my generation. She played Hermione, the ultimate smart girl in the Harry Potter series. She did go to an Ivy League school in real life too. Ms Watson is also a chick flick gal appearing in movies like The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), The Bling Ring (2013) and the live action version of Beauty and the Beast (2017). She is also a UN Women Goodwill ambassador and helped launch the campaign HeForShe, which calls for men to advocate gender equality. Emma Watson also has a book club and a killer IG feed, so she is definitely on my 5 Chicks to Follow superlist.
#4 I Mindy Kaling — @mindykaling
Multitalented Mindy Kaling is a comedy genius with some serious skills in acting, writing, directing and well running her own show. She started out in The Office (2005-2013) writer’s room and appeared in the show as well. Then she created, produced and starred in her self-titled comedy series The Mindy Project (2012–2017). Plus she was one of the badass ladies in Ocean’s 8 (2018). She doesn’t have a book club, but she is the author of not one, but two New York Times best-selling memoirs, titled Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) (2011) and Why Not Me? (2015). I think she is quite worth to follow on Instagram.
#5 I Ellen Page — @ellenpage
Finally, here comes the feed of the lovely Ellen Page. Her breakthrough role was the title character in Juno (2007) which happens to be one of my favourite chick flicks of all time. Ellen Page also appeared in the X-Men series, Whip It (2009) and Inception (2010). She hosted Gaycation (2016-) a tv series with her best friend Ian Daniel. The two of them set out on a journey to explore LGBTQ cultures in various locations around the world. Ellen Page describes herself as a pro-choice feminist. She came out as gay during a speech at the Human Rights Campaign’s “Time to Thrive” conference in Las Vegas. Her Instagram feed reinvigorates any old soul in no time. Check out her new “page” too!
So here is my very own 5 Chicks To Follow on Instagram list post. I hope you enjoyed it and found some inspirational content. More like these are in the making. Tell me who would make the cut on your personal list of Chicks to Follow, I would love to hear it in the comments. Happy scrolling!
